I feel your pain....right there with you! I wish I had some great solution...I really think it is practice, practice, practice and hedge your bets by not going to shallow on your DOF. I love your shots in the snow, BTW and what a cute pup!

Funny, that whole recent post I did with the cats licking their chops was really an exercise for me in getting action shots, no matter how small. I'm need a ton of work in that area. I've also found the AF-L button to be useful for certain kinds of action shots.

Yes, I usually set it to "plain" continuous mode rather than high-speed continuous. As an experiment, I should play around with switching between the two (regular and high-speed) to see if I still might be missing some shots. I try to remember that even the best sports photographers throw away a lot of shots. It's just disappointing to see an otherwise cool shot go into the reject pile because it's OOF. Practice might just help me get used to the disappointment! I think to a certain degree it's inevitable.

Great shots... she looks thrilled in the snow! =) Action shots are hard for me too. Do you shoot in continuous mode? I find that I get more keepers in 'continuous mode' over 'one shot.' I'm certainly no expert at it though...

Oh I hear you! When I first went to a horse show I took about 300 shots and I think about 5 came out acceptable. Then I picked up a mono-pod and that made life easier - but still a work in progress. Our snow is nearly gone but now we have a forecast of snow, rain and freezing rain (I really don't think the weather people know what they are talking about so they are covering all bases!)
