Some of my favorite urban backdrops:
--Train Ave, west from the Flats
--West 3rd Street, between Steelyard Commons & the Flats
--Towpath Trail between Canal Visitors Ctr and Harvard Trailhead has some neat industrial relics repurposed as educational displays (sit the dogs on em)
--Steelyard Commons itself has a few relics strewn about. See the parking lot and display at the northeast end.

Underneath the Veteran's Memorial Bridge there's a walkway with pedestrian access. You can get some really cool shots there.

I love your photos. You really capture the personality of the pups. Thanks for sponsoring this contest - I think it will be fun to learn about places that are good to photograph pups. Since you already do the metroparks I thought I might add some urban ideas to the mix.

First is a small yard behind a training place I know, North Coast Dogs. The yard is fully fenced and there is a nice white west facing wall that could be a simple back drop. The location on google maps is http://tinyurl.com/nuzw9v (10237 Berea Rd.) I expect if you talked with the owner at the training facility he would let you do a shoot there.

Two other places I like to go for a great view of the city would work well for capturing downtown Cleveland as your back drop. The first one is Edgewater Park - the entrance off of Lake shore Blvd. You can walk along the edge of the hill above the water and get lots of views of the city. It is especially breathtaking early in the morning or in the evening when the sun is low in the sky. It is actually a state park - here is a link to the park info http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/clevelkf/tabid/721/Default.aspx

A little lesser known and newer park location is Wendy Park http://006ccbc.netsolhost.com/index.html

There is a little shore line with lots of great drift wood. Several spots where you can see the old bridges and the city and a great art deco style lighthouse. Some of the areas are fenced off, but you can still get a lot of great shots.

Good luck on with your contest and I look forward to reading more ideas.
