I’m so lucky to have friends with gorgeous dogs. These wonderful dogs belong to my dear friend and agility instructor. Not only are her dogs beautiful and well-trained, she has a yard that gets amazing late evening light.

And the No. 1 ambassador for the breed (there have been more rat terrier adoptions due to this dog, than just about any other breed I know), Paddy. This little guy has to be one of my favorite models. He’s completely cooperative and wonderfully patient. He’s just a great little guy (and, ahem, one of the top agility rat terriers in the country! Go Paddy!)

Urban Location Scouting ~ A Contest!

If you’ve been following my blog over the years, then you know my favorite location for a photo shoot is at the park. Having the CVNP and Cleveland Metroparks down the road is a privilege and a delight. But I’d like to add some variety to my portfolio and would like to discover some really neat urban locations. Think grungy, brick, eroded landscapes. Or architecturally interesting locations. I know of a few, but I want to learn about the distressed brick wall with faded paint that you pass every day on the way to work. Or the rusty old bridge that you’ll now see in a new light. My challenge to you is to scout out a cool new location that I can use for a photo shoot!

And! I’m making a contest out of this location scouting expedition. Post a comment in this blog entry with a description of the location (and a google map link if you have it) to enter. You can also email me a photo of the location. Describe what you like about it and why you think it would be a neat location for a photo shoot. All entries that meet the criteria listed below will be considered and the top three favorites will get a free photo shoot of your pet at the location you submitted. You’ll also get a free brag book of my ten favorite images from the photo shoot.

Some things to consider:
- Accessibility and safety. Urban is good, but it has to be safe for pets and people (and legal to access!)
- It doesn’t have to be in an urban location – it just has to look that way
- Color, texture, contrast. Think rust, color, old and new together.
- Location, location. I’ll consider locations that are within a 50 mile radius of Cleveland for the top three shoots. But, if you have other ideas, go ahead and enter a cool site that is near you. One day I might be in the area and I’ll be able to check it out.

UPDATE: I’m going to run this contest until I get back from vacation on Sunday, October 4th. I’ve had a few people email off the list to let me know that they’re looking around and will be posting their locations as soon as they find a place that they really like. Love the suggestions that have been entered so far!

After much deliberation, I finally narrowed down the aussie puppy pictures to just under forty or so. I’ll be printing these up into a brag book for the puppies’ owner. From the final set, I picked a few favorites to share here. The night I took these, the dogs were participating in a puppy class in their front yard. Enjoy!

Red. Merle. Aussie. Pup.

Over the years I seem to have found my peeps who hold a love in their hearts for this particular combination. At an agility trial a few months ago, a couple with a similar pup, commented that they had a reputation for being a bit feisty. I can tell you that this little one here is an absolute doll. Brother of Tumble. Son of Flip. This is Spin.

Don’t worry…there’s one more pup from the litter that I have photos of to share! More aussie puppy goodness will arrive here soon!

Tumble | Aussie Puppy | Medina Pet Photographer

My friend bred her beautiful red tri-color Aussie boy earlier in the year. The result – a litter of amazing little red aussie bears. These puppies are the fluffiest monsters ever.

The same friend adopted two of the pups for herself – a little red merle guy named Spin and this little red tri-color boy named Tumble (their dad’s name is Flip).

This is the tip of the cuteness iceberg and I’ll be posting more of the pups in a week or so. But I just couldn’t wait to at least post something. The cuteness is just too much to resist.

Pepper’s Day Out | Brecksville Dog Photographer

Pepper’s mom came up with the best story for his photo session – it’s Pepper’s Day Out at the Park. He had a chance to venture into the park and explore new places. We had rain the weekend of the shoot, so we ended up splitting our session up between the Brecksville Reservation and Chippewa Creek by the Station Road Trailhead. Pepper had fun and so did we.

Water Dog :: Lydia

What could be more perfect than a summer afternoon, a cool pond surrounded by overhanging trees and nine dogs! Late last month, I went down to visit a friend and brought my pup along to swim with her dogs and few of her friend’s dog. By the time everyone arrived, there were seven portuguese water dogs, one golden retriever and one little rat terrier. The afternoon was a blur of wet black fur.

I took a bunch of photos and am gradually working through them. This first set features, Lydia. She’s an accomplished agility, obedience and water dog. She demonstrated some of her water work and was happy to show off her favorite ball (which Gus later stole).

I love the shot above on the right. I’ve known Lydia for three years and I barely ever get to see her eyes! Since she was all wet, I did a little hair-dressing so that I could see a little bit more of that pretty face.

Yeah – the splash wasn’t really a part of the sequence off the boat – but it is Lydia splashing into the water after she dove off the dock.

More photos are on the way from the pond – we have PWD pups, a golden’s first swim and a group shot of nine dogs!

In between last weekend’s rain storms, I had the chance to meet up with Pepper and his owner for a photo shoot in the Brecksville Reservation and across the street in the national park. This is just a sneak peek of two of my favorites. I’ll be posting more in a week or so.

Jewels

Does this little one look familiar? She started out as Nevada Blue, the name she was given by her breeder, but now she is Jewels. Appropriate since little gray ratties like this are a bit rare and she attracts attention wherever she goes.
